Akwa Ibom CP Dismisses Reports of Insurgent Infiltration, Holds Stakeholders’ Security Meeting

The Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Mohammed Baba Azare, has convened a stakeholders’ security meeting following recent insecurity concerns in parts of Nigeria.

During the meeting, Azare dismissed online claims that insurgents and Boko Haram terrorists had infiltrated Akwa Ibom, warning that such false reports could create unnecessary fear among residents.

The meeting brought together traditional rulers, religious leaders, market and transport unions, student unions, the Nigeria Labour Congress, community representatives, and members of the press. Its purpose was to review the security situation in the state and reinforce collaborative efforts to maintain peace and stability across communities.

Azare reaffirmed that Akwa Ibom remains peaceful and secure, noting that the Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, will continue robust patrols, surveillance, and intelligence-driven operations throughout the state.

He also expressed concern over the spread of fake news and unverified security alerts on social media, emphasizing that communities must actively participate in security by reporting criminals involved in armed robbery, cultism, vandalism, drug peddling, and other illegal activities.

“No community can be truly safe if some residents shield or protect criminals,” Azare said, urging traditional and religious leaders, youth groups, market associations, and civil society organizations to collaborate closely with the Police to sustain the state’s peaceful environment.

Stakeholders at the meeting, including CAN chairman Bishop Chris Nyong, traditional ruler Edidiem Sylvanus Okon, CHRAN Chairman Franklyn Isong, and NLC Chairman Sunny James, commended the Police for their efforts in maintaining safety. They pledged to strengthen collaboration, improve information sharing, and support initiatives aimed at sustaining peace and security in Akwa Ibom State.
