Katsina Primary School Left to Ruin, Children Risk Lives Daily

Pupils at Tsintsiya Primary School in Danja LGA, Katsina State, are being forced to learn in hazardous conditions after part of the school collapsed, exposing years of neglect in basic education. Parents say children sit among broken walls while teachers struggle to maintain lessons, fearing for everyone’s safety.

Despite billions of naira allocated to education, little has translated into tangible improvements. Katsina alone has about 300,000 out-of-school children, and the state suffers from severe malnutrition and stunting, further undermining learning. Experts blame misplaced priorities and the diversion of funds to prestige projects, leaving children in unsafe classrooms.

Observers stress that rebuilding the school must be a top priority, ensuring safety, dignity, and access to education for Katsina’s children.
