Katy Perry Seeks Nearly $5 Million in Damages in Legal Dispute Over Montecito Mansion

Katy Perry is requesting nearly $5 million in damages from the former owner of her $15 million Montecito mansion amid a years-long legal battle. The singer and her ex Orlando Bloom originally purchased the California estate in July 2020, but the previous owner later attempted to revoke the sale, claiming he did not intend to sell the property.

Details of the Legal Battle

Perry filed a court document on November 21, requesting $4,718,698.95 in damages from entrepreneur Carl Westcott, the mansion’s former owner. The breakdown includes $3,525,000 in lost rental value due to the dispute and $1,343,401.95 for necessary repairs, with $149,703 deducted to offset Westcott’s losses.

Westcott, meanwhile, claims Perry still owes him the remaining balance of the $15 million sale. According to his legal filing, Perry has paid $9 million to date, leaving a total claim of $5,740,418.18 after accounting for repair costs.

The legal conflict stems from Westcott’s claim that he “lacked capacity” to sign the transaction in 2020 and later filed a lawsuit against Perry’s business manager, Bernie Gudvi. Perry gained full ownership of the Montecito home in May 2024 after a previous trial determined there was no persuasive evidence supporting Westcott’s claims. A judge noted that Westcott appeared “coherent, engaged, lucid and rational.”

Perry’s Testimony and Focus on Justice

During her testimony in Los Angeles court via Zoom, Perry was questioned about her motivations for pursuing legal action. The singer, 40, told Westcott’s attorney Andrew J. Thomas simply: “Justice.”

The Montecito property, spanning approximately 2.5 acres, features eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, an infinity pool, jacuzzi, outdoor fireplace, full kitchen area, and a three-bedroom guesthouse overlooking the ocean. Perry and Bloom originally purchased the 9,285-square-foot estate with the intention of raising their daughter, Daisy.

It remains unclear whether Perry and Bloom moved into the home after gaining access in 2024.

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s Relationship Update

Perry and Bloom, who were engaged for six years and in a nine-year relationship, announced in June 2025 that they had called off their engagement. Reps for the couple stated they are now focused on co-parenting their daughter and maintaining a stable family dynamic.

“They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect,” the statement read.

Background on the Montecito Home

The legal battle has drawn attention not only because of Perry’s celebrity status but also due to the property’s luxurious features. Known for its scenic ocean views and high-end amenities, the estate has been a point of contention between Perry and Westcott since the purchase was first contested.

As the legal proceedings continue, Perry is seeking to recover damages for financial losses and repairs, while the former owner seeks additional payment from the sale. The case underscores the complexities of high-profile real estate transactions and the legal challenges that can arise even years after a sale.
