Tension erupted on Tuesday at the main gate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, after several rounds of ammunition reportedly fell from a speeding passenger bus along the Zaria–Katsina road.
A video shared on X by the counter-terrorism platform Zagazola Makama showed bullets scattering in front of the university, alarming students, motorists, and passersby.
An eyewitness, Musa, said the bullets dropped from a commercial bus heading toward Katsina. “We suddenly saw the bullets fall as the bus sped past the gate. By the time people reacted, the vehicle was gone,” he recounted.
Musa added that some onlookers quickly collected the scattered ammunition and alerted nearby security personnel. Another student, who asked to remain anonymous, described the scene as “strange and frightening”, noting fears that the bullets could be intended for bandits operating in parts of Kaduna and Katsina.
Security agents later arrived at the scene and recovered the ammunition, restoring calm.
