Defending Chevron Championship winner Nelly Korda, who claimed the title last year at The Club at Carlton Woods, had a disappointing first round. The LPGA Tour star made four consecutive bogeys and was four over after just six holes, ending the day 12 shots behind co-leaders Ryu and Liu.
In contrast, Georgia Hall delivered a strong performance, opening with a three-under-par 69. The English golfer started her round on the back nine with back-to-back birdies and bounced back from a mid-round bogey stretch with a trio of birdies over her final eight holes.
The day was not without weather drama—play was suspended due to a late storm, leaving 24 players unable to complete their rounds.
Gemma Dryburgh of Scotland shot an even-par 72, despite a costly double-bogey at the par-five 8th. Meanwhile, Charley Hull, ranked 10th in the world, slipped to a 75 after a triple-bogey on her final hole. Lottie Woad, the world’s top-ranked amateur, matched Hull with a +3 score after a round that included four bogeys and just one birdie.
As round two approaches, Georgia Hall is among the key names to watch in this tightly contested LPGA major, while fans hope Nelly Korda can stage a comeback and defend her title.
