Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed he is “OK but not 100%” after returning to his role following a hospital stay due to pneumonia.
The 47-year-old Newcastle manager was hospitalized on 11 April after feeling unwell for several days. During his recovery, he missed key Premier League matches against Manchester United, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa.
On Thursday, Newcastle United announced that Eddie Howe was well enough to resume managerial duties. Speaking on Friday, Howe said, “I’ve been through a range of emotions, but I feel like I’m on the road to recovery. I’m not 100% in my body, but I like to think I’m close to 100% in my mind—which is the most important thing.”
Eddie Howe’s illness marked a challenging period, both personally and professionally, as Newcastle United continue their push for a top-four finish. The club currently sits fifth in the Premier League and is set to face Ipswich at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Reflecting on his health, Howe admitted, “You take it for granted—I certainly have—and when you don’t have the luxury of feeling normal, it can be very difficult. But I try to take a positive from every experience.”
In Eddie Howe’s absence, assistant manager Jason Tindall and coach Graeme Jones led the team to two wins and one defeat in the Premier League.
As Eddie Howe returns to the sidelines, Newcastle United fans will be hopeful his leadership can boost their campaign during this crucial stage of the season.
