Gloucestershire have secured a major coup in signing former England international Dawid Malan for the 2026 and 2027 T20 Blast seasons, adding a world-class batter with vast experience to their title-challenging squad.
Malan, 38, left Yorkshire last week, despite having a year remaining on his contract, after six successful seasons. He retired from international cricket in August 2024, finishing as one of only two men—alongside Jos Buttler—to score a century in all three formats for England.
Malan’s International and Domestic Credentials
During his illustrious career, Malan was part of the England squad that won the T20 World Cup in 2022 and played in 22 Test matches, 30 One-Day Internationals, and 62 T20 internationals. In 2020, he reached the world number-one ranking in T20 batting and became the fastest player to reach 1,000 T20 international runs in just 24 innings.
At domestic level, Malan spent 13 years with Middlesex before joining Yorkshire, where he finished the 2023 and 2024 Blast campaigns as the competition’s top run-scorer and captained the side last season. He also contributed to The Hundred-winning sides with Trent Rockets in 2022 and Oval Invincibles in 2024.
Why Gloucestershire Was the Right Move
Malan described Gloucestershire as a club with “real ambition” to compete for the T20 Blast title once more.
“You only have to speak to [director of cricket] Jon Lewis and [head coach] Mark Alleyne to understand the scale of their ambition. They are putting together a strong squad, and I am eager to contribute. I have worked with both of them in the England set-up—they are positive, professional people, and it will be great to join them and the players to help Gloucestershire challenge for titles.”
Gloucestershire director of cricket Jon Lewis welcomed Malan to the club, highlighting the impact his experience and global pedigree will have on the squad.
“I know Dawid well from my time with the England men’s team, and I’m confident he’ll be a great fit for our dressing room. He’s a good person, an excellent professional, and someone who will be brilliant to have around the place. Bringing someone of that quality into our Vitality Blast squad is a huge coup for Gloucestershire.”
Looking Ahead: T20 Blast 2026
Gloucestershire won the T20 Blast in 2024, and the addition of Malan strengthens their chances of repeating that success. With a mix of emerging talent and experienced internationals, the club looks set to be one of the favourites for the 2026 campaign.
Fans can expect Malan to play a pivotal role at the top of the order, offering leadership, consistency, and the kind of finishing ability that has made him a star in T20 leagues around the world.
The signing also signals Gloucestershire’s commitment to building a competitive, high-quality T20 squad, combining domestic talent with seasoned internationals to challenge the best in English cricket.
