Bandits on Thursday afternoon launched an attack along the Osokoko–Obajana Road in Kogi State, triggering panic among travellers and residents.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen attempted to block the road and ambush vehicles, causing motorists to flee for safety. Community members quickly issued warnings advising travellers to avoid the road until security forces had fully secured the area.
In a video circulating online, a woman confirmed that soldiers had restored order, saying:
“Road don clear, all thanks to the Nigerian Army, everybody don dey go back.”
Although authorities have yet to issue an official statement, witnesses reported that troops deployed to the scene successfully repelled the attackers, preventing casualties or loss of property.
The incident once again highlights the persistence of insecurity along major travel corridors in Kogi State, where armed gangs routinely target motorists.
Linked Incident: Attempted School Abduction in Kabba Bunu
The attack comes just a day after Kiri High School in Aiyetoro Kiri, Kabba Bunu LGA, was invaded by bandits in the early hours of Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
Members of the Kiri Vigilante Group mobilised swiftly and confronted the attackers, rescuing all abducted students. No student remains in captivity, according to community sources.
The rescue operation, however, came with casualties:
- One vigilante member was killed while defending the community.
- A Hausa resident was also reported dead during the attack.
The attempted kidnapping adds to a growing list of mass abductions across Nigeria’s north-central region. Since mid-November, over 400 people — mostly schoolchildren — have been abducted, prompting widespread condemnation from the United Nations and global religious leaders.
