Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, better known as Speed Darlington, just two months after his previous release.
According to JOINTEARN, the arrest took place on October 4, following the release of a controversial video in which Speed Darlington allegedly mocked his fellow artist Burna Boy’s connection to American rapper Diddy, who has faced legal issues with the FBI related to charges of sexual exploitation.
The outspoken singer, also known as Akpi, was granted bail on October 9 after spending five days in detention.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the latest arrest on Wednesday via a Facebook post, stating, “Our client Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon his return to Nigeria.”
Efforts by JOINTEARN to contact the Nigeria Police Force for comment were unsuccessful, as Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi did not respond to calls.
