Three Petroleum Tankers Fall Within 24 Hours in Oyo

Three tanker accidents involving Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) have occurred in Oyo State within 24 hours, authorities confirmed.

The incidents happened in three separate locations across the state:

  1. First Incident – Ibadan (Wednesday):
    A Mack trailer with registration DEP175XB (Lagos), carrying 33,000 litres of PMS, swerved into a ditch at Lasi 2, Liberty Academy, Odo-Ona, Elewe, Ibadan. The fuel spilled, but no casualties were recorded. Firefighters applied chemical foam to suppress flammability and prevent fire.
  2. Second Incident – Ogbomoso (Thursday):
    Another tanker carrying 45,000 litres of PMS reportedly lost control at Idi Oro, Ogbomoso and somersaulted onto the roadside. Fire service officials quickly blanketed the area with chemical foam, preventing fire and saving properties worth millions of naira.
  3. Third Incident – Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, Ibadan (Thursday):
    A trailer tanker with registration KUJ718XT (Abuja), loaded with 45,000 litres of PMS, swerved into a ditch, and the cab caught fire. Firefighters promptly launched a coordinated attack using chemical foam, containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading.

Oyo State Fire Service Chairman, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the three accidents to DAILY POST on Friday, emphasizing that no lives were lost.

“Our officers quickly swung into action by applying chemical foam compound to suppress flammability and prevent the fuel from catching fire in all three incidents,” he said.
