The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two men in possession of 1,046 kilograms of cannabis sativa.
The suspects, Felix Edah (45) and Lucky Abagha (51), were apprehended during an operation on November 13, 2025, the NDLEA Commander in Edo State, Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, confirmed in a statement in Benin City.
The arrests occurred during motorised patrols along the Benin-Akure Road and Ugbogiobo Community, as the suspects’ vehicles, reportedly loaded with cannabis, were intercepted. Both vehicles allegedly departed from Uyere community in Ovia North East LGA and were en route to Benin City.
Dr. Ofoyeju provided details of the seizure:
- Felix Edah, from Delta State, was driving a Mercedes-Benz V-Boot (DE311BEN) carrying 38 bags of dried cannabis, weighing 494 kg.
- Lucky Abagha, driving a Mercedes-Benz V-Boot (JJJ 56 JW, Lagos-registered), had 46 bags of cannabis, weighing 552 kg.
The combined weight of the seized drugs is 1,046 kg. Both vehicles were confiscated as instrumentalities of crime, and the suspects are now detained at the NDLEA Benin office for further investigation.
Dr. Ofoyeju stressed that these arrests form part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and dismantle trafficking networks in Edo State, particularly as the yuletide season approaches. He urged the public to report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies to strengthen collective responsibility in the fight against drugs.
