1 Dead, 2 Injured in Mercedes Crash Near Ambience Mall in Delhi: Speeding Car Hits Pedestrians

In a tragic accident early Sunday morning, a speeding Mercedes struck three people and crashed into a roadside pole near Ambience Mall in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area, leaving one person dead and two others injured. The incident, which occurred around 2:30 am, has raised concerns about reckless driving and road safety in the busy locality.

The deceased has been identified as Rohit Singh, a 23-year-old native of Chamoli in Uttarakhand. He, along with two friends aged 23 and 35, all employed at a restaurant in Ambience Mall, were waiting near a roadside pole for an autorickshaw when the vehicle struck them. Rohit Singh succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital, while his two friends are currently undergoing medical care.

Police investigations revealed that the driver of the Mercedes, Shivam, 29, a resident of Karol Bagh in Delhi, had borrowed the car from a friend to attend a wedding. Shivam was reportedly returning home with his wife and elder brother when the accident occurred. According to authorities, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to a diversion on the road, resulting in the car hitting a pole and the three pedestrians standing nearby.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel confirmed that the car struck the victims at an auto stand, and Rohit Singh died during treatment at the hospital. The two injured individuals are being treated, and their conditions are being closely monitored. The damaged Mercedes has been seized by the police, and Shivam is currently in police custody. Legal proceedings against him are underway, and authorities are recording statements from the injured witnesses to establish the exact circumstances of the accident.

The incident occurred on Nelson Mandela Marg, a busy stretch in Vasant Kunj, highlighting the risks associated with speeding and lack of attention while driving, especially during late-night hours. Preliminary police reports suggest that a diversion on the road may have caused the driver to lose control. Authorities are investigating whether overspeeding, distraction, or negligence contributed to the crash.

According to the police control room, the initial emergency call regarding the accident was received at approximately 2:33 am, prompting the rapid deployment of officers to the scene. Upon arrival, police found the Mercedes heavily damaged and the victims lying on the roadside. Immediate medical assistance was provided, but unfortunately, Rohit Singh could not be saved.

The driver’s custodial interrogation is ongoing, with police seeking to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the crash. Witnesses, including the two injured individuals, are being questioned to piece together the circumstances. Authorities have also recorded the car’s ownership details and are examining the possibility of any traffic violations prior to the incident.

Road safety experts say that accidents like these often involve multiple contributing factors, such as vehicle speed, road conditions, driver alertness, and pedestrian behavior. In urban areas like Vasant Kunj, late-night diversions, poorly marked construction zones, and limited visibility can increase the risk of accidents if drivers are not careful.

This accident is part of a growing trend of road mishaps involving high-end vehicles in Delhi, raising concerns about speeding, reckless driving, and adherence to traffic regulations. The police have reiterated the importance of following speed limits, maintaining control of vehicles, and ensuring pedestrian safety, particularly in busy commercial areas.

Local authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation, including examining CCTV footage from the vicinity and gathering testimonies from witnesses to determine accountability. Shivam could face charges of rash and negligent driving causing death and injury under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

In the meantime, the accident has caused distress among the local community and raised questions about pedestrian safety at night. Residents and shopkeepers have called for better road signage, improved lighting, and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for careful driving and vigilance on city roads, especially in areas with high pedestrian movement. As authorities continue their investigation, the focus will remain on ensuring justice for the victims and preventing future road accidents through stricter enforcement and awareness measures.
