New Delhi: The mother of a 38-year-old woman found dead in her Vasant Vihar residence has alleged that her daughter endured years of abuse and cruelty at the hands of her husband and in-laws. The woman was the daughter-in-law of the owner of the Kamla Pasand paan masala group.
Circumstances of Death
The woman was discovered dead inside the dressing area of her bedroom on Tuesday afternoon. Police said she lived with her husband, two children, and domestic staff. Following a complaint from the mother, police registered a case under Sections 108 (abetment to suicide) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Mother Details Alleged Abuse
According to the FIR:
- The daughter married in December 2010. Within a few months, in Feb–Mar 2011, her husband and mother-in-law allegedly dragged her from the first floor to the ground floor and physically assaulted her while she was pregnant. She temporarily returned to her parents but was later persuaded to go back after apologies.
- Later in 2011, after the birth of her son, she discovered her husband was having an affair in Mumbai and had allegedly married the other woman and fathered a daughter. She stayed in Kolkata with her parents for a year before returning to Delhi.
- Abuse reportedly resumed two to three years later, with confrontations continuing over obscene chats involving her husband and other women in April 2024. She again stayed in Kolkata temporarily before returning to Delhi.
Events Leading to Death
On November 25, 2025, the woman reportedly called her mother around 7:30 am about an argument with her husband over their son’s mobile phone. Later, calls went unanswered, and by around 12 pm, a family member informed her mother that her daughter had died.
