Honda's Global Vehicle Output Falls 9% in Q1 2025

April 28, 2025Honda Motor Company has reported a 9% decline in its global vehicle output for the first quarter of 2025. The Japanese automaker produced a total of 883,362 vehicles, down from 972,291 units in the same period of 2024. This drop reflects challenges in both domestic and overseas production.

Q1 2025 Performance: Key Details

In March 2025, Honda’s production fell by 3.4%, reaching 329,664 vehicles globally compared to 341,092 units in March 2024. The decline was mainly due to a 4% drop in overseas production (to 268,510 vehicles) while domestic production in Japan remained relatively stable, falling just slightly to 61,154 units.

Full Fiscal Year 2024: Overall Decline

For the fiscal year FY2024, Honda’s global vehicle production dropped by 11.5% to 3,644,066 units from 4,117,870 units the previous year. Domestic production in Japan also saw a small decline of 2%, reaching 692,593 units. Meanwhile, overseas output decreased by 13.5% to 2,951,473 vehicles.

  • Asia (outside Japan) experienced a significant 28% fall in output, producing only 1,243,970 units.

  • China saw a 34% decline, with output dropping to 768,288 vehicles.

  • However, North American production slightly increased by 2%, reaching 1,608,441 units, despite a 4% drop in US output to 988,756 vehicles.

Regional Breakdown for Q1 2025

  • Asia (excluding Japan) was hit hard in Q1 2025, with production falling 23% to 284,975 vehicles. A significant 25% drop in Chinese output contributed to this decline, falling to 162,393 units from 216,812.

  • North America also saw a decline in production, down by 3% to 405,074 units. Output in the US fell by 6% to 242,695 vehicles.

Honda’s performance highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the automaker across key regions, including significant setbacks in China and North America.
