President Bola Tinubu has submitted the name of Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede to the House of Representatives for confirmation as Chief of Army Staff.
The request was presented in a letter to the House, which was read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during Tuesday’s plenary session.
Oluyede was appointed Acting Chief of Army Staff by President Tinubu after the illness and subsequent death of Taoreed Lagbaja.
The President’s letter emphasizes that the nomination is in accordance with Section 218 of the 1999 Constitution, which grants the President the authority to appoint the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, Chief of Air Staff, and other heads of military branches established by the National Assembly.
