As Nigerian music continues to dominate the global stage, many diaspora Nigerians are reconnecting with their roots, using music to celebrate and promote African culture worldwide.
One such talent is Precious Ebie Onungwe, popularly known as Presh. The Canada-based Nigerian, who initially built a career as a petrochemical engineer, has stepped away from engineering to pursue his lifelong passion for music.
With a debut single already out and a full album set for release by year-end, Presh shared insights on what fans can expect from his upcoming project.
“The Nigerian music industry is highly competitive, filled with stars who have already established themselves. To stand out, you need the right team—producers, cinematographers, and a solid promotional strategy,” he said.
He revealed his choice of producer, D-Tuns, noting:
“I chose D-Tuns because he is well-known, trusted, and has produced many of Nigeria’s top hip-hop artists. With his experience and my God-given musical talent, we can create something that will resonate globally, not just in Nigeria.”
A Deep Connection to African Culture
Presh explained that his love for African culture drives his music:
“Being proud of the African in me is my biggest motivation. I love our culture, beliefs, food, and language, and I want to showcase that on a global stage. I don’t rely on drinking, smoking, or any form of enhancement for inspiration. If you ever see me drinking something, it’s water.”
He also announced an upcoming collaboration with Mr. Real, with the music video set to shoot immediately after completing the audio.
“My music is pure Africanness. I want listeners to feel Africa in everything I create—my sound, my style, and my way of life,” Presh said.
With his authentic approach and strong cultural focus, Presh is positioning himself as one of Nigeria’s promising new music talents to watch.
