NCoS Appoints Jane Osuji as First Female National Spokesperson

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has appointed Chief Superintendent of Corrections Jane Osuji as its new Public Relations Officer, a historic first for the Service. The appointment, approved by Controller General Sylvester Nwakuche, takes effect immediately.

Osuji succeeds Deputy Controller Umar Abubakar, who retired on November 19, 2025. An indigene of Owerri North LGA, Imo State, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Advertising from Lagos State University and a Master’s in Public Administration from LAUTECH, Ogbomoso.

Enlisted in the then Nigerian Prisons Service in 2009 as Assistant Superintendent of Prisons II, Osuji has completed all mandatory courses for her cadre and numerous specialised trainings, including the Internal Security and Low-Intensity Conflict Operations Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji.

Her career spans key roles such as Assistant Public Relations Officer in Lagos State Command, Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, and Assistant National Public Relations Officer at NCoS Headquarters, where she served under four Controllers General. She also served as Press Secretary to three Ministers of Interior between 2015 and 2023.

Until her appointment, Osuji was part of the Public Relations Unit at NCoS Headquarters, Abuja. She is married with children.
