Ohanaeze Youth Council Urges Atiku to Serve as Obi’s Running Mate for ADC in 2027

The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to accept the Vice Presidential slot on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket, allowing Peter Obi to lead as the party’s Presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.

According to OYC President Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, this pairing—Obi as the Presidential candidate and Atiku as his deputy—is the ADC’s best chance to defeat incumbent President Bola Tinubu.

Igboayaka stated that Obi has the potential to bring about a national rebirth in Nigeria if elected President. He emphasized the importance of regional balance, noting that since the ADC’s National Chairman is from Northern Nigeria, it is fitting for the Presidential candidate to come from the South in 2027.

“Southern Nigeria is scheduled to complete its tenure in 2031. Therefore, it is imperative that the ADC selects its 2027 Presidential candidate from the South,” Igboayaka said.

He criticized the Tinubu administration for allegedly failing Nigerians and urged that the Obi–Atiku ticket be used to “rescue the nation.”

The OYC also warned against any moves that might further marginalize the Igbo nation, asserting its commitment to protecting regional representation in national politics.
