The Federal Government has approved the promotion of 24,202 officers and personnel across four key paramilitary agencies under the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB).
The announcement was made in Abuja by the Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Board, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who was represented by the Board Secretary, Gen. Abdulmalik Jubril (retd.). He noted that the exercise represents the second batch of senior officers elevated in 2025.
The agencies affected by the large-scale promotion include:
- Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) – 11,426 personnel
- Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) – 4,336 personnel
- Federal Fire Service (FFS) – 2,581 personnel
- Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) – 5,859 personnel
Tunji-Ojo explained that the promotions were based on several criteria, including national spread, performance, conduct, available vacancies, and proper documentation.
He stated that the move is aimed at boosting the morale of officers and enhancing efficiency in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places strong emphasis on the welfare of security personnel.
“In recent years, promotions had been stagnant, but this administration is committed to improving the well-being of officers to better tackle the security challenges confronting the nation,” the minister said.
Tunji-Ojo described the exercise as one of the many incentives introduced to strengthen the ministry and support the personnel who play critical roles in national security.
