The actress and comedian’s engagement was full of hints, laughter, and love.
Zoey Deutch revealed that while her fiancé Jimmy Tatro tried to surprise her with a proposal, she totally saw it coming. The couple, who began dating in 2021, announced their engagement on September 28, 2025, sharing a series of romantic photos from Tatro’s beach proposal.
How Deutch Knew the Proposal Was Coming
During a November 26 appearance on The Tonight Show, Deutch, 31, recounted the hints that tipped her off while the couple vacationed in Corsica.
“I probably shouldn’t say it, but I saw it coming. I felt it a little,” she told host Jimmy Fallon.
Deutch explained that her meticulous trip planning unintentionally tipped Tatro off:
“He tried, nonchalantly, to be like, ‘Hey, so I planned dinner on Monday.’ And I was like, ‘So did I. I’m sure you saw on the Google doc.'”
She continued, joking that Tatro immediately realized she knew and even texted her best friend:
“She didn’t ask one question. She didn’t ask what restaurant, what type of food, how do you know it’s a good restaurant. She knows!”
Despite spotting the hints, Deutch said she was still surprised by the details of the proposal — how he asked, what he said, and the ring itself. She described the engagement as “one of the best nights of my life.”
Why She Doesn’t Like Calling Him Her Fiancé
Even after saying yes, Deutch admits she struggles with the word “fiancé.”
“Fiancé is such a weird word. It just sounds a little pretentious,” she joked. “It’s like, ‘my fiancé,’ so I just sort of say ‘my Beyoncé.'”
The couple celebrated publicly on Instagram, where Deutch wrote:
“Three months engaged to the love of my life.”
Deutch’s mother, actress Lea Thompson, shared her excitement on social media, writing:
“We are overjoyed to say that @zoeydeutch and @jimmy are engaged! Jimmy we love you so much and you guys are such a beautiful combination. May your love help make the world better. It’s made mine better.”
