Kashmir Records Coldest November Since 2007; Srinagar Dips to –4.5°C

Kashmir is experiencing its coldest November in nearly two decades, with temperatures plunging below freezing across multiple locations, officials said on Friday. Srinagar recorded its lowest night temperature of the season at –4.5 degrees Celsius, slightly colder than the previous night’s –4.4°C.

Temperature Trends Across the Valley

The meteorological department reported that night temperatures across the valley have been consistently dropping, with Srinagar’s readings more than four degrees below the seasonal average. Several weather stations in the region recorded their lowest November night temperatures since 2007.

  • Srinagar: –4.5°C (previous lowest on November 28, 2007: –4.8°C)
  • Konibal (Pulwama district): –6°C, the coldest in the valley
  • Qazigund: –4.4°C
  • Kupwara: –4.8°C
  • Kokernag: –1.8°C
  • Pahalgam: –5.5°C
  • Gulmarg: –1.4°C

The all-time lowest November temperature in Srinagar remains –7.8°C, recorded in 1934.

Weather Forecast

The meteorological department has predicted mainly dry weather across Kashmir until December 10, with a possibility of further drops in night temperatures. Residents are advised to take precautions as frost and cold conditions persist across the valley.

This record cold spell highlights the intensity of winter onset in Kashmir this year, impacting daily life, agriculture, and tourism in the region.
