Tiger Woods, the 15-time major champion and golfing legend, has revealed that his recovery from disc replacement surgery has been slow, with no set date for his return to the PGA Tour.
The 49-year-old has not competed on the tour since missing the cut at The Open in July 2024, and his health has been a growing concern for fans following a series of injuries and surgeries over the past decade.
Latest Surgery and Recovery Challenges
Woods underwent back surgery in October 2025 after experiencing persistent pain and limited mobility. This marks his seventh back procedure in the last ten years, highlighting the physical toll the sport has taken on the golfing superstar.
“It’s not as fast as I’d like it to be. It was a good thing to do, something I needed to happen, it just takes time and dedication to the rehab process,” Woods said.
The golfer emphasized the step-by-step nature of recovery from such a major procedure:
“Unfortunately I’ve been through this rehab process before. It’s been six weeks since the operation, and it’s been slow. You can’t really do much with a disc replacement, now we have the OK to start cranking it up in the gym and start strengthening.”
Delayed Return After Achilles Surgery
Tiger Woods’ comeback timeline was initially delayed in March 2025 after undergoing surgery to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon, an injury sustained while training at home. These setbacks add to the challenges he has faced since a serious car accident in February 2021, which already limited his mobility and tournament schedule.
Despite these obstacles, Woods remains committed to returning to golf, emphasizing that his passion for the sport continues to drive him forward.
“I haven’t done that in a long time and it’s been a tough year. I’ve had to sit on the sidelines for a number of months of this year and the end of last year. I’d like to come back to just playing golf again.”
What This Means for the PGA Tour
Woods’ absence from competitive golf continues to impact the PGA Tour, where fans and fellow players eagerly anticipate the return of one of the sport’s most iconic figures. With his recovery progressing slowly, no official tournament or date for his comeback has been confirmed, leaving uncertainty around when the 15-time major winner will resume full competition.
Golf analysts note that Woods’ focus on rehabilitation and strengthening post-surgery is crucial, particularly given the cumulative effect of years of injuries, prior surgeries, and age-related wear.
Tiger Woods’ Legacy and Motivation
Despite the setbacks, Woods’ love for the game remains undiminished. He described his drive to return as purely about the passion for golf, underlining that even after multiple injuries, his determination to compete has not faded.
“My passion is to just play. I’d like to come back to just playing golf again.”
For fans worldwide, the golfing legend’s eventual return will be a highly anticipated event, as he seeks to continue adding to his remarkable career achievements and inspiring a new generation of golfers.
