OGC Nice has issued a strong condemnation after a group of fans physically confronted players and staff following their latest Ligue 1 defeat. The incidents occurred on Sunday as the team returned home after a 3-1 loss at Lorient, marking the club’s sixth consecutive defeat in all competitions.
According to reports in France, around 400 supporters targeted forwards Terem Moffi, Jeremie Boga, and sporting director Florian Maurice as the team bus arrived at Nice’s training center.
Hostile Confrontation at Training Ground
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos lasting approximately 45 minutes, during which fans blocked the bus, lit flares, chanted hostile songs, and heckled players and staff.
The situation was so stressful that Jeremie Boga, the Ivory Coast forward, has been on medical leave since Monday, French media reported.
The club confirmed the incidents in a statement:
“The club understands the frustration generated by the succession of poor performances and performances far removed from its values. However, the incidents that occurred during this gathering are unacceptable. Several club members were targeted. OGC Nice offers them its full support and condemns these acts in the strongest possible terms.”
Attempts to Engage Fans
During the confrontation, one supporter was allowed to board the bus to speak with players, while coach Franck Haise also attempted to engage and calm the situation. Club president Fabrice Bocquet was not present at the time.
The unrest underscores the rising tensions among supporters, especially after Nice’s struggles this season, leaving them 10th in Ligue 1 with 17 points from 14 games. Last season, the club had finished fourth in the league, making the current slump all the more frustrating for fans.
Upcoming Fixtures
OGC Nice will look to recover when they host Angers on Sunday in what is expected to be a crucial match for restoring confidence among both players and supporters.
Club officials have emphasized that while they understand fan disappointment, threatening or confronting players is unacceptable, reaffirming the importance of safety and respect within the sport.
