Two Residents Killed in Suspected Terrorist Attack on Irunda-Ile Community, Kogi

Two residents have been confirmed dead following an early-morning attack on Irunda-Ile, a community in Yagba East Local Government Area, Kogi State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, when armed assailants reportedly stormed the community and opened fire, causing panic and tension among locals. Residents described the assault as unprovoked, and said the deaths have heightened fear in a community already grappling with rising insecurity.

A local source told SaharaReporters that the situation worsened when security operatives deployed to Isanlu–Irunda allegedly fired at unarmed citizens.

“The security operatives in Isanlu–Irunda, Yagba East, reportedly shot at unarmed citizens. Two people have been shot now. We will seek legal redress,” the source said.

The victims were said to be ordinary residents caught in the chaos of the attack. Community members are urging the Kogi State government and security agencies to conduct a transparent investigation and ensure that the perpetrators—whether terrorists or erring security personnel—are brought to justice.

Community leaders also called for calm while stressing the need for enhanced protection for rural settlements in Yagba East, which have faced repeated security threats in recent months.

As of this report, the Kogi State Police Command has not released an official statement regarding the attack.
