The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied receiving any official notice of resignation from Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, despite widespread reports of a letter suggesting he quit the party.
Speaking to journalists after a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja, PDP National Chairman Kabiru Turaki stated that the party has yet to receive any formal communication from Adeleke.
“We have seen online a letter said to be from him resigning from our party, but I tell you that we have not, up to this moment, received any formal indication that he has left,” Turaki said.
He noted that while the online letter has fueled public discussion, Adeleke’s name remains on the official list of aspirants for the party’s Osun governorship primaries. Party officials overseeing the election will clarify whether the governor is still participating or has formally withdrawn.
Turaki emphasized that Governor Adeleke, like any citizen, has the constitutional right to decide his political affiliation, but stressed that such decisions do not weaken the party.
“As far as we are concerned, even if the letter circulating online is genuine, Gov. Adeleke, like any Nigerian, has the freedom to associate as he wishes,” he said.
The PDP National Chairman also highlighted that the party has survived previous defections and continues to enjoy strong grassroots support.
“Our people have remained with us, and by God’s grace, when elections come, they will show that the PDP is still solid,” Turaki added.
Earlier reports by SaharaReporters had claimed that Governor Adeleke formally resigned, citing persistent internal disputes within the party. The purported resignation letter, dated November 4, 2025, was reportedly addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area, and quickly circulated online, sparking speculation about the governor’s political future.
