The Ogun State House of Assembly has resolved over 100 disputes related to land, chieftaincy, environmental issues, and transport unions in the past year, Speaker Oludaisi Elemide revealed.
Addressing lawmakers during the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill by Governor Dapo Abiodun on Wednesday, Elemide noted that many of these issues, if left unresolved, could have caused social disharmony and threatened state peace.
Highlighting the prevalence of land-related petitions, the Speaker said, “Over 90 percent of petitions received were centered on land grabbing. There is a critical need for a Special Court to enforce the Anti-Land Grabbing Law, ensuring swift and effective resolution.”
The Assembly also achieved significant legislative milestones, passing 19 bills on energy, education, local government, and environmental matters, alongside 58 motions spanning administration, security, education, finance, judiciary, infrastructure, and community development.
Elemide further emphasized the House’s active oversight role, stating that lawmakers not only invited MDAs to account for expenditures but also conducted site inspections to verify project implementation. He requested new utility vehicles to strengthen the Assembly’s oversight functions, noting that the current buses are aging and frequently break down.
Expressing gratitude to Governor Abiodun for timely salary payments, allowances for new staff, and wardrobe allowances for all employees, the Speaker assured continued cooperation and support from the Assembly.
He also sought approval for increased monthly running costs, provision of official vehicles for the Clerk, Deputy Clerks, and management staff, a Hilux pickup for the Speaker, clinic and medical equipment, as well as office furniture for renovated committee rooms and offices.
