Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy has pledged financial support to the families of four children who were tragically killed during a mass shooting at a birthday party in Stockton, California.
Reports indicate that the “Last Last” crooner was deeply moved after hearing the heartbreaking story discussed on The Breakfast Club radio show. Feeling compelled to act, he reached out to music executive Wack 100 and Hollywood Unlocked founder Jason Lee to offer immediate assistance to the grieving families.
In a heartfelt statement, Burna Boy shared:
“When I heard about the children murdered in Stockton, my heart broke. No family should ever face this kind of pain alone. I wanted to do whatever I could to support these parents as they begin the long process of healing.”
One of the stories that affected him most was that of 14-year-old Amari Peterson — a student-athlete with a 3.8 GPA whose promising future was cut short.
Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee praised Burna Boy’s gesture, calling it “a powerful example of how compassion can come from anywhere in the world, even from those who have never met the families affected.”
The mass shooting occurred on Saturday, November 29, during a children’s birthday celebration attended by 100 to 150 people. Four young people were killed, while 11 others sustained injuries. Confirmed victims include eight-year-old Maya Lupian and 21-year-old Susano Archuleta. Authorities believe the attack may have been targeted and have issued a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Burna Boy’s humanitarian act comes during a challenging period in his career, as he faces backlash over a canceled Colorado concert and a string of other show cancellations linked to low ticket sales.
