The United States has announced a $5 million contribution to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to provide nutrition support for children suffering from acute malnutrition in Northwest Nigeria.
According to the US State Department, the funding will help UNICEF reach at least 70,000 children, supplying them with ready-to-use food, essential medicines, and other humanitarian aid.
“These funds will be used by UNICEF to deliver lifesaving nutrition support to children in Northwest Nigeria. This commitment demonstrates U.S. leadership, strength, and compassion on the global stage,” the statement read.
The announcement follows recent actions by the US government, which introduced visa restrictions targeting terrorism financiers and sympathizers in Nigeria.
