Cyberpedia Launches New Tool to Bolster Global Fight Against Fake News

Cyberpedia has unveiled an upgraded version of its search engine platform, designed to enhance efforts to detect, verify, and combat misinformation and disinformation online.

The platform targets a broad range of users, including individuals, journalists, institutions, and government agencies, enabling them to verify claims, assess online content, and request the removal of harmful material.

According to Cyberpedia, users can instantly check claims, names, organizations, and URLs by cross-referencing them with extensive databases, including domain records, litigation files, sanction lists, and cyber-threat intelligence feeds. The system also generates reports highlighting inaccurate claims, manipulated media, and coordinated disinformation campaigns.

Where content breaches regulations or platform policies, Cyberpedia facilitates takedown requests through collaborations with search engines, social media platforms, and hosting services.

“Fake news is not harmless gossip — it has serious consequences for societies and institutions,” said Dr. Abiodun Sowemimo, President and Chairperson of Cyberpedia Internet Governance.

The organisation cited examples of misinformation’s real-world impact, including:

  • The 2016 “Pizzagate” incident in the US, where a false online conspiracy prompted an armed individual to enter a restaurant.
  • Misleading COVID-19 health claims that caused confusion and avoidable deaths.
  • Election-related misinformation linked to violence in countries such as Myanmar, India, Brazil, and the United States.
  • Viral false headlines that disrupted stock markets, causing substantial financial losses.

Cyberpedia emphasized that the growing sophistication of disinformation campaigns makes rapid verification and accountability increasingly critical. Its new platform integrates artificial intelligence, regulatory compliance, and direct communication channels with hosting platforms.

The upgraded tool is available for individuals, media organisations, businesses, and government agencies, supporting faster and more accurate content verification worldwide.
