Raul Fernandez Clinches First MotoGP Victory at 2025 Australian Grand Prix

PHILLIP ISLAND, Australia — October 19, 2025 — Spanish rider Raul Fernandez powered to his maiden MotoGP victory at the 2025 Australian Grand Prix, marking a historic first win for Trackhouse Racing in the premier motorcycle racing class. Fernandez’s triumph at the iconic Phillip Island Circuit also made him the seventh different race winner of the season, underlining the competitive depth of this year’s championship.

Fernandez Dominates for Trackhouse’s First-Ever Win

Starting third on the grid, the 24-year-old Spaniard delivered a flawless performance after overtaking early leader Marco Bezzecchi. Once Fernandez seized control, he never looked back — expertly managing his tyres and pace to cross the finish line in commanding style.

“This is unbelievable,” Fernandez said in tears after the race. “The team always believed in me, and this victory is the result of all their hard work. Managing the tyres here is crucial, and in the last laps, I just tried to stay calm and bring it home.”

The victory also represented a major milestone for Aprilia, which celebrated its 300th Grand Prix victory, making it the most successful European manufacturer in MotoGP history.

Bezzecchi’s Penalty and Comeback

Sprint race winner Marco Bezzecchi initially surged to the front after a lightning start from second on the grid, overtaking Fabio Quartararo and Pedro Acosta before the first corner. However, his hopes of victory took a hit when he was handed a double long-lap penalty for his collision with newly crowned world champion Marc Marquez at the previous round in Indonesia.

Despite the setback, Bezzecchi mounted a spectacular comeback, clawing his way through the field to secure third place, behind Di Giannantonio in second.

“It was a super tough race,” Bezzecchi said. “Taking the penalty was frustrating, but I gave everything. To still finish on the podium feels incredible.”

Di Giannantonio Seizes Second, Bagnaia and Miller Crash Out

The fight for the podium was fierce, with Fabio Di Giannantonio, Pedro Acosta, and Alex Marquez trading positions in the middle stages of the race. Ultimately, Di Giannantonio held firm to claim second, delivering a strong result for VR46 Racing.

Defending champion Francesco Bagnaia suffered disappointment when he crashed out with four laps to go, while Australia’s Jack Miller also crashed while running in sixth place — dashing hopes of a home podium for local fans.

Meanwhile, Fabio Quartararo, despite his blistering qualifying performance that secured pole position, endured a nightmare race, slipping down the order to finish 11th.

A Season of Surprises

Fernandez’s breakthrough victory continued a thrilling 2025 MotoGP season that has seen seven different race winners and a shifting competitive landscape. The Trackhouse rider’s consistency and growing confidence could make him a serious contender in the final rounds of the season.

Trackhouse Racing principal Justin Marks praised Fernandez’s composure:

“Raul has been building up to this moment all season. We knew his talent, and today he showed the world what he’s capable of. This is a monumental day for our team and for Aprilia.”
