A new foundation has been established to address Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), Sickle Cell Trait (SCT), and arthritis.
Founder Festus Okechukwu Ogbu named the foundation after his daughter, who passed away from SCD, emphasizing its mission to raise awareness and support patients affected by these conditions.
Speaking on the initiative, Ogbu said, “Sickle Cell Disease is devastating, and awareness of related conditions like SCT and arthritis remains low—perhaps only about 20 per cent of the population is informed. This foundation aims to educate people on how to prevent these illnesses and reduce their impact, particularly on children.”
Ogbu highlighted the importance of sharing medical expertise and experiences, noting that his family benefited from NGO support during his child’s illness, inspiring him to extend similar assistance to others.
The foundation plans to organise public education forums and donate drugs to hospitals, ensuring patients have access to vital medical support and information.
