Man, Son, Rescuer Die Inside Kano Well

The Kano State Fire Service has reported three tragic incidents resulting in multiple deaths on Thursday, urging residents to avoid entering wells or taking risky actions during emergencies.

According to the agency’s Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the first incident occurred at Badawa Layin Day by Day in Nassarawa Local Government Area following a fire outbreak around 11:57 a.m. Firefighters discovered a house measuring about 25 by 20 feet already engulfed in flames, with two bedrooms severely affected.

“A 10-year-old girl was trapped inside the house. Our men rescued her unconscious, but she was later confirmed dead and handed over to her parents,” the statement said.

The second tragedy took place at Badume Kanawa Village in Bichi Local Government Area, where three men died inside a well. A 65-year-old man, Sa’idu Gada, was working in the well when the rope supporting him broke. His 20-year-old son, Sani Isyaku, entered to rescue him but also became trapped. A third man, Yakubu Abdullahi, 60, attempted a rescue and was similarly trapped.

“Our men managed to bring them out unconscious, but all three were later confirmed dead,” Abdullahi said. Their bodies were handed over to DSP Kabiru Iliyasu of the Badume Police Division.

The third incident occurred in Danbatta Local Government Area, where a 10-year-old boy, Hassan Iliyasu Haruna, fell into a well at Layin Abba Dabo. Firefighters responded at 6:02 p.m. and rescued the boy unconscious, but he was later pronounced dead and handed over to his father.

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, warned the public against entering wells during emergencies.

“People should stop entering wells to rescue others. This behaviour is dangerous and leads to unnecessary loss of lives,” he said.
