Lt.-General Tukur Buratai (rtd), former Chief of Army Staff and current Ambassador to Benin Republic, has denied allegations linking him to terrorism financing, describing them as false, unfounded, and malicious.
- The statement, issued via former Army spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka Usman, condemned the report by Sahara Reporters that cited claims from Major General Danjuma Ali-Keffi (rtd).
- Buratai emphasized that throughout his distinguished career spanning over four decades, he has never been questioned, investigated, indicted, or associated with terrorism financing by any official body.
- The statement highlighted his leadership in combating Boko Haram and ISWAP, recovering occupied territories, and restoring civil administration, arguing it would be illogical to associate him with terrorism.
- Buratai demanded an immediate retraction and public apology from Sahara Reporters and Ali-Keffi, warning of potential legal action if they fail to comply.
The former army chief insists the allegations are a smear campaign aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
