Hyderabad is set to host a major international gathering of policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and innovators as the Telangana government prepares to organize the inaugural “Telangana Rising Global Summit” on December 8 and 9. The two-day event is being positioned as a landmark platform to showcase the state’s long-term vision for economic transformation and global competitiveness, with Nobel laureates Abhijit Banerjee and Kailash Satyarthi among the headline speakers.
Joining the Nobel laureates at the inaugural ceremony will be Eric Swider, Director of Trump Media and Technology Group, and Biocon Executive Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw. Their participation is being viewed as a significant endorsement of the summit’s global outlook and ambition. According to official statements, the presence of internationally recognised figures from economics, social activism, technology, and biotechnology is intended to reflect the breadth of conversations the state hopes to stimulate.
The summit is designed to cover more than 20 key sectors that are central to both Telangana’s and India’s growth trajectory. These include information technology and software services, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, financial services, energy, and emerging areas of innovation. Organisers have outlined an ambitious programme featuring 27 specialised sessions that will focus on technology advancements, sustainable development, infrastructure expansion, healthcare delivery, sports development, and broad-based economic growth.
A central theme of the summit is the idea of long-term, sustainable progress. Several focus areas have been identified, including technology and innovation, the pathway to achieving net zero emissions by 2047, and the development of the proposed “Future City” project, which the state government sees as a flagship initiative for next-generation urban infrastructure. Investment promotion and industrial growth are also core pillars of the event’s agenda, as Telangana seeks to strengthen its position as a preferred destination for both domestic and international capital.
The scale of participation is expected to be significant. More than 2,500 delegates from over 42 countries have already registered to attend the summit. These participants include government officials, corporate leaders, startup founders, policy experts, investors, and representatives from global institutions. The international turnout is being highlighted by the state government as proof of Telangana’s growing global profile and its ability to attract attention beyond India’s borders.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma is scheduled to formally inaugurate the summit at 1 PM on December 8, according to the official programme. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has acknowledged potential challenges due to ongoing airline connectivity disruptions across the country but expressed confidence that necessary arrangements would ensure smooth participation. He stated that alternative travel plans, including the possibility of special flights for key dignitaries, would be put in place if required to avoid any disruption to the event.
In the run-up to the summit, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy visited the venue on Saturday evening to personally inspect the preparations. The venue is located in the area designated for the proposed Bharat Future City on the outskirts of Hyderabad. During his visit, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that the arrangements are of a standard befitting a global-level summit. He also instructed them to install a statue of ‘Telangana Thalli’ at the venue, a symbolic gesture reflecting the state’s cultural identity and pride.
One of the most anticipated moments of the summit will be the unveiling of the “Telangana Rising 2047 Vision Document.” This document lays out an ambitious roadmap for the state’s economic and social development over the next two decades, with the goal of transforming Telangana into a USD 3 trillion economy by the year 2047. The vision document is expected to include comprehensive sector-wise plans covering industrial expansion, infrastructure creation, technology partnerships, skill development, and innovation ecosystems.
State officials have described the summit as more than just a conference, calling it a statement of intent and a signal of Telangana’s readiness to play a leading role in India’s and the world’s future economic landscape. By bringing together thought leaders, global investors, Nobel laureates, and policymakers under one roof, the government aims to foster partnerships that will translate into tangible investments, cutting-edge research collaborations, and long-term growth opportunities.
As Hyderabad prepares to welcome thousands of international delegates, the Telangana Rising Global Summit is being positioned as a defining moment for the state. It is expected not only to highlight Telangana’s achievements in technology, infrastructure, and governance but also to chart a clear and ambitious path toward a future driven by innovation, sustainability, and inclusive economic prosperity.
