
At least 25 people have tragically lost their lives following a massive fire at a popular nightclub in Arpora, Goa, officials confirmed. Among the deceased were four foreign tourists and 14 staff members, while around 50 others sustained injuries in the devastating incident.
The Indian government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the fire to determine the cause and hold responsible parties accountable.
Fire Erupts at Goa Nightclub
The blaze occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday, December 7, 2025, when a gas cylinder reportedly exploded at the nightclub. According to the Press Trust of India, the explosion triggered a rapidly spreading fire that engulfed the venue.
A security guard near the nightclub told ANI, “We heard a massive explosion… we later learned that the fire broke out after a cylinder blast.”

Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that three victims died from burn injuries while the rest succumbed to suffocation. Authorities have recovered all bodies from the site.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the bereaved families and pledged support. He announced compensation:
- Victims’ families: Up to 200,000 rupees (~$2,200)
- Injured survivors: 50,000 rupees (~$550)
CM Pramod Sawant emphasized that negligence would be dealt with firmly, stating:
“I have ordered a magisterial inquiry into the entire incident to identify the cause and fix responsibility.”

Video clips and images circulating on social media showed rescue personnel rushing people into emergency vehicles, thick smoke rising from the building, and balls of fire engulfing the nightclub. Eyewitnesses described chaos as patrons tried to escape the inferno.
