Fuji Star KWAM 1 Declares Interest in Becoming Next Awujale of Ijebuland

Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, has officially announced his intention to compete for the Awujale throne in Ijebuland.

On December 3, 2025, KWAM 1 submitted a formal letter expressing his desire to be considered for the Awujale stool, identifying himself as a “bonafide son” of the Fusengbuwa ruling house. The announcement quickly circulated online, sparking conversations about the growing intersection of celebrity influence and traditional leadership in Nigeria.

Ruling House Demands Proof of Royal Lineage

In response, the Fusengbuwa ruling house clarified that expressing interest alone is not sufficient. Abdulateef Owoyemi, chairman of the ruling house, explained that every aspirant must complete a detailed lineage form tracing ancestry back seven generations.

“The first step is to declare your lineage. Your parents, grandparents, and those before them must be traced. Only genuine members of Fusengbuwa will be allowed,” Owoyemi said.

This measure is intended to ensure that only authentic members of the royal family are eligible for the throne.

KWAM 1 Granted Special Extension

Although the official deadline for applications closed on December 5, KWAM 1 has been given a five-day extension, which expires on December 10, to submit his lineage documents.

Owoyemi emphasized that while the ruling house welcomes influential figures who can bring prestige to the throne, authenticity is non-negotiable.

Timeline for Selection Process

The process to select the next Awujale is on a tight schedule:

  1. By December 18 – Fusengbuwa ruling house to submit qualified candidates to the kingmakers.
  2. 7 days after submission – Kingmakers select a candidate to forward to the Ogun State governor.
  3. 21-day government review – Includes background checks, objections, and security clearance.

Why Lineage Verification Matters

According to the ruling house, verifying royal lineage is critical to preserving the integrity of the Awujale stool. KWAM 1’s ancestry, like that of all aspirants, will be thoroughly scrutinized to prevent any outsider from claiming the position.

“This is about preserving tradition and ensuring that only rightful members of Fusengbuwa ascend to the Awujale position,” Owoyemi stated.

The coming days will determine whether KWAM 1 can successfully prove his royal heritage and secure a place among the candidates for one of Ijebuland’s most prestigious traditional titles.
