
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed that two people died and two others were seriously injured in separate accidents early Monday, December 8, 2025.
The first crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. at Otedola Bridge on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, involving an unregistered vehicle traveling at high speed that collided with a heavily loaded trailer. Both occupants of the car died instantly, while the trailer driver fled the scene.
The second accident happened at 5:00 a.m. on the Third Mainland Bridge near the UNILAG waterfront. An empty tanker collided with a sachet-water van (plate SMK 67 XH), leaving two people seriously injured. Victims were treated and transported by Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).
LASTMA officials emphasized that the crashes were preventable and reiterated the urgent need for motorists to obey speed limits. General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki warned that reckless driving continues to claim lives, commended the prompt response of LASTMA’s Night-Gang Teams, and pledged ongoing 24-hour traffic surveillance and enforcement.
