Lady Exposes Traders Rebagging Local Rice Into ‘Foreign’ Branded Sacks

A Nigerian woman has stirred massive reactions online after sharing a video revealing how some market traders allegedly repackage locally produced rice into branded “foreign” bags to deceive buyers.

Identified on TikTok as @gracie249, the lady said she came across the questionable activity during a routine visit to a bustling food market.

How the Scheme Works

According to her, traders reportedly purchase old or discarded branded rice sacks and take them to a part of the market where large quantities of homegrown rice are stored.
In the viral clip she recorded, local rice is seen being poured into the branded bags, sealed, and stacked among other goods—ready to be sold to unsuspecting customers who believe they are buying imported rice at premium prices.

She emphasized that the repackaging was done openly, as though it were normal business, with no attempt to conceal the operation.

Rice sellers: Na foreign rice. Dey play,” she wrote, expressing disbelief at the level of deception.

Netizens flooded the comment section with anger and disappointment:

  • @aliyyah: “Is this a good business??? Omo we can’t move forward in this God-forsaken country. Everyone’s mindset so low.”
  • @OLUFEYISAYO: “Why tag it foreign rice when it’s not? Why defend this daylight fraud? Omoo this country nawa oo.”

The video continues to go viral as many Nigerians express concerns over food safety, pricing, and consumer fraud in local markets.
