Kehinde Oshilaja Foundation Urges Government to Prioritise Welfare of PLWDs

The Kehinde Oshilaja Foundation has called on the government to intensify efforts to protect and improve the welfare of Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs), especially during festive periods when additional support is crucial.

Speaking at an awareness and advocacy programme to mark World Disability Day in Lagos, the Foundation’s Coordinator, Kehinde Oshilaja, emphasised the need for meaningful inclusion, accessible infrastructure, free education and healthcare, and employment opportunities to enhance the quality of life of PLWDs.

“As the Yuletide approaches and celebrations take place globally, all tiers of government must prioritise the welfare of people living with disabilities. Their needs should be factored into social intervention programmes, health care delivery, and educational support,” Oshilaja said.

The programme saw participation from religious and traditional leaders, who urged collaborative efforts to ensure PLWDs are fully integrated into society.

At the Lagos Central Mosque, Chief Imam Sulaimon Abdulnalla called on government authorities to adopt global best practices in disability care. Similarly, during the Sunday service at Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Alago Meji, Lagos, Pastor Balogun Ayobami offered prayers for PLWDs, wishing them divine restoration and favour.

Traditional leaders also contributed, with Chief Priest Ademola Fabunmi of Ijo Orunmila Ato, Lagos Mainland, praising organisations supporting PLWDs and urging monarchs to leverage their influence to uplift vulnerable members of society.

The celebration concluded with renewed calls for collaboration among government, religious institutions, traditional bodies, organisations, and individuals to ensure that PLWDs are not only protected but fully integrated and empowered to participate in all aspects of society.
