Media personality Dele Momodu has faulted First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu for confronting Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, during a public event, describing her actions as inappropriate and disrespectful.
The incident took place at the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, where the First Lady was also honoured with a chieftaincy title.
As part of his usual style, Governor Adeleke began his remarks with a worship song. A viral video from the event shows the First Lady walking up to the stage and instructing him to stop singing and move straight to his speech. When Adeleke continued, she reportedly returned and warned that the microphone would be switched off if he did not comply.
The interaction has generated widespread debate and mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians questioning whether the First Lady’s intervention was appropriate.
Momodu reacts
Responding via social media, Momodu—an ally of Governor Adeleke—criticised the First Lady’s behaviour, arguing that it fell short of the decorum expected from someone in her position. He also questioned whether she would have issued the same warning to a northern governor who opened his address with Qur’anic recitations at a public function.
The incident has continued to stir conversations about public conduct, respect for elected officials, and the boundaries of protocol at state and traditional events.
