Rajon Rondo Earns Degree from University of Kentucky Nearly 20 Years After Playing for Wildcats

Former NBA star and two-time champion Rajon Rondo is officially a University of Kentucky graduate. Nearly two decades after leaving Kentucky basketball to pursue a professional career, Rondo completed his undergraduate studies and received his bachelor’s degree in communications.

Rondo, who played for the Kentucky Wildcats from 2004 to 2006, was among seven former student-athletes who returned to the University of Kentucky to finish their academic requirements, according to the school’s athletic department. His name appeared on the official list of graduates released Thursday ahead of the school’s commencement weekend.

The four-time NBA All-Star left college early to enter the 2006 NBA Draft, where he was selected 21st overall. Rajon Rondo began his professional career with the Boston Celtics, helping them win the 2008 NBA Championship. He later won a second title with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020 before officially retiring from the NBA in 2024.

Rondo played his final season in 2022, capping off an impressive 16-year NBA career that included stints with multiple teams and a reputation as one of the league’s premier playmakers.

The University of Kentucky will continue graduation ceremonies throughout the weekend, honoring students—including returning athletes like Rondo—who’ve successfully completed their degrees.

This achievement adds yet another milestone to Rajon Rondo’s decorated career, bridging the legacy of Kentucky basketball with a strong commitment to education.
