Tyrone Mings Elbow Incident Leaves Bournemouth's Alex Scott with Fractured Jaw

In a dramatic turn during the Bournemouth vs Aston Villa clash at Vitality Stadium, Alex Scott suffered a fractured jaw following a controversial elbow from Tyrone Mings. Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola described the challenge as a “very violent” elbow that went unpunished.

The incident occurred just six minutes into Saturday’s Premier League fixture when Tyrone Mings caught Alex Scott with his right elbow. The 21-year-old midfielder immediately went down and required prolonged medical attention. Despite his injury, Scott attempted to continue but was later substituted at half-time after a second clash involving Amadou Onana.

On Sunday, Bournemouth confirmed Alex Scott will undergo jaw surgery and miss the remainder of the season.

Iraola was visibly frustrated with the officiating, particularly the lack of action against Mings. “Tyrone Mings knows what he’s doing. He saw where Alex was—it was very violent. He was almost knocked out. A red card in the sixth minute changes the game,” Iraola told BBC Sport. He also questioned Jacob Ramsey’s red card, claiming it wasn’t a deserved second yellow.

The Tyrone Mings elbow incident has sparked debate among pundits. Former Wales defender Ashley Williams commented, “I don’t think he means it. Mings puts his arm out to protect the ball—it’s a nasty collision.” However, former Villa goalkeeper Shay Given disagreed, saying, “I think he knows what he’s doing. He doesn’t swing the elbow but he straight-arms him across the jaw.”

This Premier League injury news adds to Bournemouth’s injury woes as they close out the 2024–25 season without one of their key players.
