The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and Osun APC leader, Adegboyega Oyetola, has lauded the Supreme Court for dismissing a suit filed by the Osun State Government that sought to force the Federal Government to release funds to the ousted PDP-led local government chairmen.
In a 6–1 ruling, the Court held that the suit was incompetent, clarifying that local governments, as autonomous entities, are the proper parties to pursue such legal action—not the state government.
Oyetola described the judgment as a win for democracy, constitutionalism, and the rule of law, noting that it reinforces the independence of local governments and underscores that legal processes cannot be manipulated for partisan purposes.
He urged the Osun State Government to respect judicial decisions and prioritize the state’s overall interests over political considerations, emphasizing that stable governance depends on adherence to the law.
