A woman in her 30s has sadly passed away following an assault in Cork city centre on Sunday evening.
The victim, identified locally as 36-year-old Vanessa O’Callaghan, died on Wednesday from the injuries she sustained in the attack, according to Irish broadcaster RTÉ.
Ms. O’Callaghan, who had reportedly been relying on homeless services for several years, was found unresponsive near the Savoy Cinema on St. Patrick’s Street after a confrontation near a soup kitchen.
The assault took place between 7:15 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. local time, as confirmed by Gardaí (Irish police).
Authorities have issued an appeal for information, urging witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage from the area during the incident to come forward.
