Accord Party Declares Governor Ademola Adeleke as Flagbearer for 2026 Osun Governorship Election

The Accord Party has officially announced Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2026 election.

According to the party, Adeleke secured 145 out of 150 delegate votes in the primary election, which held on Wednesday. Five votes were declared invalid.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that Adeleke had been cleared as the sole aspirant for the party’s governorship ticket following a screening exercise conducted by the party’s committee in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

In a statement, Elder Ibe Thankgod — Chairman of the Screening Committee and the National Organising Secretary of the party — confirmed that the governor “fulfilled all the requisite requirements for nomination and participation at the primary.”

Thankgod added that the committee had “cleared Governor Adeleke as the sole aspirant for the party’s governorship ticket and concluded all required documentation with relevant bodies.” He subsequently presented a certificate of clearance to the governor, describing him as a credible and deserving flagbearer.

Responding, Governor Adeleke expressed appreciation to the party leadership and declared his readiness for the election season.

“I am ready for the primary and I am ready for the general elections. We are winning by God’s grace,” he said.

Other members of the screening committee included Abdurahaman Muhammed, Abdulahi Sani Muhammed, and Mrs. Awogbade Rachael.

The development comes a day after Adeleke formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing unresolved internal crises at the party’s national level.

In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde in Ede North LGA, Adeleke stated:

“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.”

The governor also acknowledged the PDP’s role in his political rise, including his election as Senator for Osun West and subsequently as Governor of Osun State.

On Tuesday evening, Adeleke publicly unveiled Accord Party as his new political platform.
