Ilorin Airport Security Foils Stowaway Attempt by Man Trying to Escape to America

Security operatives at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin, Kwara State, on Wednesday foiled a daring attempt by a man to stow away on a commercial flight in a bid to escape Nigeria.

The suspect, Mr. Segun Martins, was apprehended at around 3:02 p.m. after gaining unauthorized access to the airside and attempting to hide beneath an Overland Airways aircraft preparing for departure.

According to Mr. Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Martins tried to conceal himself between the aircraft’s tires, believing the flight was bound for the United States.

“Ground security apprehended the individual. He was immediately handed over to the Airport Police for further investigation,” Achimugu disclosed via his verified X handle.

Martins is currently in the custody of the Airport Police Command, and investigations into the incident are ongoing. Authorities have not confirmed any further charges.
