8 UNIJOS Students Killed in Horror Crash in Jos

Tragedy struck in the early hours of Thursday, December 11, 2025, when at least eight students of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Plateau State, were killed in a road accident. The students were returning from a night outing when a trailer lost control and collided with their bus on Zaria Road in Jos metropolis.

Eyewitnesses reported that, in addition to the eight students who died on the spot, the bus driver also lost his life, while two students survived and were rushed to a nearby hospital.

The students had been traveling in two hired buses around 2 a.m. when the incident occurred near the Zaria Road Stadium area. According to reports, the trailer, reportedly moving at high speed, suffered brake failure and struck one of the buses. The impact caused the bus to crash into an electric pole near Farin Gada bridge, tearing the vehicle apart.

A survivor recounted:

“The collision tore the bus apart, killing eight occupants instantly. We were sitting at the back, so the force didn’t hit us as badly. Immediately, the trailer struck us, and the bus started shaking. Before anyone could react, we hit the electric pole. It was so sudden—we didn’t even see the trailer.”

The Plateau State Police have not yet officially confirmed the incident, but a senior officer told DAILY POST that a manhunt has been launched for the trailer driver, who reportedly fled the scene after the crash.
