Marcus Rashford says he feels “no pressure” at Barcelona and is relishing what he calls a “new language of football” after rediscovering his form during his loan spell from Manchester United.
The 28-year-old England forward joined Barcelona on a season-long loan in July after a difficult spell at Old Trafford, which included a short loan at Aston Villa in the second half of last season. Since arriving in Spain, Rashford has made a strong impact with six goals and eight assists in 21 appearances.
“I don’t see anything here as pressure. I’m here to play football,” Rashford told BBC Sport.
“It’s been amazing. I feel welcome, I feel at home. I’ve been enjoying every step of the way.”
A Childhood Dream Move
Rashford revealed that Barcelona were his favourite club outside England when he was growing up. Now living in the city, he says he is taking his time to embrace life both on and off the pitch.
“It’s different, but a great learning curve,” he said.
“I’m learning the language, the culture… it’s all enjoyable for me.”
Rashford attended his first Barcelona community event this week, visiting a local school as part of the club’s outreach programme.
Revival Under Hansi Flick
After scoring 138 goals in 426 games for Manchester United and winning five major trophies, Rashford fell out of favour last season under manager Ruben Amorim. His form dipped, leading to fewer minutes and eventually to his loan to Aston Villa.
But his strong spell at Villa Park, followed by a bright start at Barcelona, helped him win back his place in the England squad under manager Thomas Tuchel. Rashford had previously been left out by former England boss Gareth Southgate.
Barcelona have an option to buy Rashford permanently for £30.3m (€35m) in the summer of 2026. Rashford has already expressed interest in staying.
“It’s a new language of football,” he said.
“I’ve always admired Spanish football. To play for the biggest club in Spain is a huge honour.”
Impact in Europe and Domestic Form
Rashford impressed again in Barcelona’s 2–1 Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday. Coming off the bench, he provided the assist for Jules Koundé’s winner, earning praise from Spanish media.
Barcelona are currently four points clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga and have won their last five league matches.
When asked about his aims for the rest of the season, Rashford was clear:
“Simply to win. This club demands it. The environment pushes us to be the best we can be. It’s the perfect place to be.”
Rashford is also the first male England international to play for Barcelona since Gary Lineker joined in 1986, adding another milestone to his already eventful career.
