American rapper Snoop Dogg has been officially named an “honorary coach” for Team USA at the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, Italy. The announcement was made by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) on Thursday, highlighting Snoop Dogg’s role in celebrating and supporting American athletes off the field.
Celebrating Team USA with Humor and Heart
At 54 years old, Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr., will take on a volunteer position designed to boost morale, provide encouragement, and share his unique brand of humor and wisdom with Team USA athletes.
“Team USA athletes are the real stars – I’m just here to cheer, uplift, and maybe drop a little wisdom from the sidelines,” said Snoop, affectionately nicknamed “Coach Snoop” for the occasion.
USOPC officials emphasized that Snoop Dogg’s involvement is intended to bring motivation, positivity, and entertainment to the athletes, particularly in a high-pressure environment like the Winter Olympics. Chief executive officer Sarah Hirshland praised his energy and enthusiasm, stating that his dedication to the Olympic and Paralympic movement is “contagious.”
Snoop Dogg’s Olympic Legacy
Snoop Dogg was a highly visible presence during the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, where he served as a special correspondent for NBC’s Olympic coverage. He also performed at the handover ceremony for Los Angeles 2028, cementing his status as a high-profile supporter of Team USA.
The USOPC said that Snoop Dogg will lend his signature humor and heart to inspire athletes throughout the games, helping to create a supportive environment both on and off the field. Snoop added:
“This team represents the best of what sport can be: talent, heart, and hustle. If I can bring a little more love and motivation to that, that’s a win for me.”
Beyond Music: Snoop Dogg’s Commitment to Sports
Snoop Dogg is not just a music icon; he is also a dedicated sports advocate. In 2005, he founded the Snoop Youth Football League, a program designed to give inner-city children the opportunity to play American football in stadiums across the United States. His involvement in youth sports reflects his broader commitment to mentoring and inspiring young athletes.
The Winter Olympics will take place from 6-22 February 2026, and Snoop Dogg’s honorary coaching role promises to bring a mix of celebrity charisma, motivational support, and fun to Team USA’s preparation and performance. Fans can also expect to see Snoop’s influence as part of NBC’s coverage of the games.
