EFCC Arraigns Peace Corps Commandant, Finance Director Over Alleged N60 Million Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned the Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps, Dickson Akon, and the Corps’ Director of Finance, Omolola Aminat Ahmed, before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja on December 11, 2025. They are facing charges related to the alleged misappropriation of N60 million allocated to the organization.

The Charges

The defendants were brought before Justice H. B. Yusuf of the FCT High Court to face a two-count charge of conspiracy and dishonest conversion of funds allocated to the Peace Corps.

According to the EFCC, the crime took place in 2024, when Akon and Ahmed allegedly conspired to misappropriate funds earmarked for a contract to supply badges to the Corps. The charges against them include:

  1. Conspiracy to commit criminal misappropriation — The first charge accuses the two of agreeing to engage in criminal misappropriation, an offense that violates Section 96 of the Penal Code Law of the FCT. Charge:
“That you, Dickson Akon and Omolola Aminat Ahmed, in 2024 at Abuja, FCT, did agree among yourselves to do an illegal act, to wit: criminal misappropriation, and thereby committed an offense punishable under Section 96 of the Penal Code Laws of the FCT.”
  2. Dishonest conversion of funds — The second charge alleges that the two defendants converted N46 million out of the N60 million allocated for the contract to supply badges for personal use, thereby committing fraud. Charge:
“That you, Dickson Akon and Omolola Aminat Ahmed, in 2024 at Abuja, FCT, did agree among yourselves and dishonestly converted to your personal use the sum of N46,000,000 out of the sum of N60,000,000 meant for the execution of a contract for the supply of badges.”

Defendants Plead Not Guilty

Both Akon and Ahmed pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them in court.

In response to their plea, prosecution counsel Khalid Sanusi requested a date to begin the trial, and Justice Yusuf set the next hearing for February 25, 2026.

Bail Conditions

The court granted bail to both defendants in the amount of ₦5 million each, with the condition that each defendant must provide one surety of reputable character residing in Abuja.

Ongoing Investigation

The case continues to develop, with Justice Yusuf presiding over further hearings. The EFCC’s investigation into the alleged fraudulent activities of the Nigeria Peace Corps officials is ongoing, and the trial is set to proceed early next year.
